CDC’s DES Content Finally Modified after 8 Years!

7 Oct

Since discovering last spring that the CDC’s DES information had not been updated since 2003, I have been working with someone there to try to get them to do something about it. I and another Admin (Karen) had several conference calls but were told no changes would be made at this time.

On Thursday I received an email from my contact who wanted to make sure I knew about the Hoover research piece in the New England Journal of Medicine. Along with it I learned that, at least in some small measure, the information available on the site has been modified as follows:

* At CDC, a notice has been added to the DES web page at www.cdc.gov/des/index.html stating that this site is no longer maintained and may be out of date.

* On the same CDC site, they have added an updated 2011 bibliography for more recent DES information.

This is in no way a victory as the site should be maintained and the information should be updated. I will continue to monitor the issue and keep in touch with my contact there.

All credit for anything being done through CDC should be given to DES Info. (Posted by Admin Andrea)

Good work, all. Can you share the contact info at the CDC? I reached out to them as well, when we were sharing contact info about this a few months back. However, if you have a contact that seems to be “live”, I think there are probably at least a few people reading this blog who would like to follow up and ask their elected officials to do the same.
